This unit discusses problems with first lessons and situations that can arise such as a new group or an existing group. Activities such as establishing a rapport between the students and finding out the English level of each individual class member. It also provides information on warmers and working with different levels. How to deal with large classes and use of the native tongue in the classroom as well as dealing with reluctant students and ensuring that students are able to listen to a text accurately.In this section, I learned what type of ESA to use depending on whether I am teaching vocabulary, grammar, or language functions. I often use straight arrow whenever I teach new grammar to students, but I now understand that that is not necessarily the best approach to use when teaching language functions. Understanding that I should use boomerang or patchwork ESA for language functions, I will plan a language function lesson for self and peer introduction language for my new students using boomerang ESA.
