Unit 3 provides various English teaching methodologies back from 17th century to the present time with a focus on the ESA methodology by Jeremy Harmer. Compared to other methodologies, an ESA lesson requires the teacher to engage the students as a starting point and to end up using English in relatively real context, such as role-play in the Activate stage. During the lesson Engage and Activate can be used more than once and should apply whenever appropriate. The Study stage is the one where the teacher introduce the language points such as grammar, pronunciation. This was a real \"eye opener\" for those who have no teaching experience. The obvious difference between the examples will enlarge the reality of effectiveness of teacher attitude in regard to the effectiveness of lesson content. I have a teaching philosophy of \"If it ain't fun, don't do it. But instead find a way to make it fun.\" These examples are \"exhibit A\" of this philosophy. I loved the visual approach but could offer some criticism on miking that would have made a teacher with a heavy British accent more understandable to a country boy American such as me.
