This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit has taught me the importance of eye contact, gestures, tone of voice and the overall presentation of the teacher himself/herself in managing a classroom with a view to maintain discipline, respect for the teacher and encouragement/motivation of students. I have also learned how classrooms could be arranged depending on space and student demography. In addition teacher talk time and student talk time should be well balanced for effective teaching. This unit covered productive skills, which are speaking and writing. When teaching students to speak a new language, there are two stages: accuracy and fluency. During the accuracy stage, you want to make sure students are pronouncing words correctly. During the fluency stage, you want the students to speak confidently with the new language. When teaching writing, it's important the students focus on punctuation, spelling, and neatness in their handwriting.
