This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
After working on Unit 2, I am thoroughly surprised with everything I have learned about my own language that I was never taught. I feel that I have learned something from each section in the parts of speech. Whether it was that nouns can be countable or uncountable, verbs can be transitive or intransitive, or articles can be definite or indefinite. I have learned a lot about the English language and I feel as though this unit has helped with learning the base of my own language. I feel somewhat frustrated that basic things such as what is taught in Unit 2 are not well-known concepts.I enjoyed working on this unit. The reason for this; was it helped consolidate my knowledge of present tenses and reassured me that past tenses are not really any more difficult than dealing with present tenses. The structures are very clear for both. I can see however, that from a student's point of view this can be very challenging. The fact that many languages do not use tenses in the same manner as English, means a good deal of explicit teaching and practise will be required.Students will still make mistakes in this difficult area and will need a lot of support and encouragement.
