This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I learned about production skills, namely speaking and writing. I learned that writing often receives the least attention in ESL classes, but that it is important nevertheless. I learned that the teacher should encourage speaking by creating a need for communication. I learned how to motivate students who might be reluctant to speak in class. I learned that accuracy and fluency is equally important, and is targeted by different stages of the class. I learned that games can be a useful way to teach these skills, and should be seen as useful practice.These section had a great wealth of information. I am excited to use many of these new websites and materials in my own lessons. I loved how YouTube was added as a potential resource for the classroom. I use many YouTube videos in my lessons, but at some schools I have found the site to be blocked, to prevent student's from getting off topic during classes. I find this a little unfortunate, because I think that it is a great resource for language learning classes. I want to take the time to look through the resource pages in more detail later on in the semester.
