Lesson planning can play an in important role in teacher preparation, especially for newer teachers. Lesson plans are intended to serve as a guide and not as a rigid tool. Flexibility is required in order to adapt to your students and your classes' needs. Lesson plans should include both teacher and learner objectives and various other tools such as, teaching aids, procedures, timing, class level, phase breakdown and date/time. Lesson plans depending on the topic can have a traditional ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) approach or a boomerang approach as discussed in previous units. This unit was useful in understanding the different aspects of productive skills (speaking and writing), and the different ways to encourage development of these skills in the classroom. It explained the equal importance of both of these skills and the difficulties that many students may encounter while developing their capabilities (such as shyness when asked to speak or struggling with differences in formatting and punctuation when writing in the new language, etc). This unit was helpful as I consider incorporating the different skills (productive and receptive) in my classes.
