Chapter 14 discusses the different types of materials that are available to teachers. Obviously using a coursebook has certain advantages and disadvantages compared to using created material. I think the overall idea from this chapter was that a healthy balance of both structured and created material is ideal when teaching English. This allows the students to have a general curriculum with more specialized and relevant activities woven in between. I think that as a newer teacher, I will rely more heavily on the coursebook until I am more comfortable with my own created material.Unit 6, Past Tenses, allowed the opportunity to review previous tense concepts that were introduced in the Present tense unit. It was a good exercise to practice identifying how and when to use these tenses and forms. It was helpful to better understand and clarify how specific verbs are used in relation to tense. In particular, I found the review of irregular verbs helpful. As a native English speaker, I often take my knowledge of these words for granted. However, this unit has added another important teaching tool, which I will definitely refer to once I?m a TEFL teacher.
