As a former K-3 teacher I was already aware of the many teaching materials and tools available to the classroom teacher. However, having a brief listing and comment about them highlights how many tools are at our fingertips to deliver and vary lessons. With so many tools available, there is no reason for lessons to be dull or boring. The trick is not to rely on any one tool to teach. Variety keeps the students engaged and does not pigeon hole you as a teacher.Knowing your students and having an excellent rapport with them will greatly assist in these types of lessons. After all, receptive skills are among the most difficult to teach and to learn. So, if one were able to find those topics that are of strong interest to the student, then it would greatly facilitate the lesson. It is also important to remember that things are more easily learned when they are relevant to a person and/or to that person's current situation.
