The main components of teaching a new language are teaching vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. When selecting vocabulary to teach, one must think about how appropriate the words are to the level of the students, how frequent the words are used, and in what situations these words can be used. Students will need to know the pronunciation, spelling, meaning and use of the words. It is important to consider the forms and patterns and uses of grammatical structures being taught. Language function is more focused on role playing and knowing when certain phrases are appropriate.Unit 14: In this unit, I learned about course books and lesson material. The term \"authentic material\" was introduced. These materials are brought into the classroom from everyday life. Authentic materials can be anything from a newspaper to a travel brochure. There can be an advantage to using this type of material in a classroom setting. The student can relate and feel comfortable using English by connecting the language to everyday objects. The wall between confidence and the everyday world can be overcome by using authentic materials and instilling confidence in the students.
