I was familiar with modal auxiliary verbs, however, I found the chart on pages 2 and 3 really helpful. I liked having the chart of auxiliary verbs with their usages and present/future and past tenses. The information on passive versus active voice was also useful.
The most educational part of Unit 18, for me, were the sections on relative clauses and phrasal verbs. I have spent much time teaching independent and dependent clauses, but have never focused on relative clauses. The example sentences for defining relative clauses and non-defining relative clauses made extremely clear the differentiation that should be made between the two.
Phrasal verbs are probably the most difficult aspect of Unit 18 to teach. I think it is important to break down examples for each of the three types of phrasal verbs and try to create a formulaic approach to each.
