Speaking and writing have the same purpose - to communicate. We speak to each other because of need or desire. Accuracy activities, usually in the study phase of the lesson, are more concerned with correct language and are more controlled. Fluency activities, usually in the activate phase of the lesson are more concerned with students concentrating on being creative with language. Group work, pair work, guided practice and careful planning are techniques for encouraging student interaction. Before a lesson consider what you expect the students to do and why, what do they already know (do you need to pre-teach) and prepare materials and instructions. Writing skills include: handwriting, spelling and punctuation. Two main writing conventions: situational and creative. Introduce a wide range of writing conventions to improve students knowledge.
