This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit goes in-depth into the way English is pronounced. Even when someone understands the rules of grammar in a new language and has a large vocabulary, able to understand the language when listening, reading, or writing, to the point of being fluent, the manner in which someone pronounces the words can still be off. This is because the English language has many similarly spelled words that sound different, differently spelled words that sound the same, stresses on words that change meaning dramatically, and a typical pattern of speaking which conveys meaning. Mastering these sounds, stresses, and the pattern is a challenging and final hurdle to becoming fluent. This lesson provides an outline on the phonetic alphabet, rules for placing stress on a word, the physical nature of constructing these sounds, and tips on how to teach it in the class.
