This lesson showcased two recordings of a lesson on the modal auxiliary verb can/can't and provided a real-life example of how a teacher's attitude and method of teaching can greatly affect the understanding and success of students. From this unit I learned that one must be attuned to students during the entire lesson. If they are not providing answers or examples as early as the Engage phase, then it is likely that I need to change how I am approaching the topic, that there needs to be clarification, and that I may even need to restructure the lesson. I also learned how a teacher's attitude toward students can have a significant impact on how much they participate. Even if the lesson is simple and I have confidence that the students will easily understand it, I should be careful how I introduce the lesson so as not to intimidate or discourage them.
