This unit is about the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language. There are many different ideas on how to teach English most effectively, and in this unit 9 different methodologies are listed specifically. However, it is most useful and effective when teachers use a combination of different methodologies, taking into consideration the students' level, age, size of the class, as well as the specific culture of the students. The format that any lesson should follow is: Engage (an icebreaker is usually used in this phase and the aim is to get the students to talk), followed by Study (this is where the students learn the contents) and the lesson finishes with Active (here the students have to apply what they learned). There can be more Study and Activate stages, as long as a lesson starts with engaging and finishing with an Activate phase.
