Unit 15 introduces the basic information a teacher should know about evaluating and testing students. The section informs about how tutorials, evaluations by students, and tests contribute to evaluation of students. The unit then takes a bit more time to discuss different types of tests, and the proper situations in which they should be administered to students. For example, it would be inappropriate to give a Skills for Life practice test to a group of new students whose language level is still unknown. In this situation, it would be best to first hold placement tests to select the proper levels for the students. This unit reviews the different external tests that are popular, which is useful information for gauging the reasons students are studying English, giving a teacher some additional information about areas upon which they should focus.
