This chapter helps us better understand what receptive skills are and how to teach them. The two perceptive skills are listening and reading. Before teaching perceptive skills, it is important for the students to be prepared for the lesson. It may be necessary to teach any vocabulary that might be troublesome in the lesson beforehand. Also, a teacher should select their texts careful in accordance with the skill level of the student. One can use receptive skills in two ways: for a purpose and for entertainment. Reading and listening for a purpose is doing so in order to reach an intended goal or acquire a piece of knowledge. Reading and listening for entertainment is just for fun and leisurely pleasure, with no real purpose. Lastly, we learn that the best way to teach perceptive skills is to engage the student in an interesting lesson with a good topic.
