While many would divide the tenses into three forms (past present future), there are actually a whopping twelve forms in English (past, present, and future are broken up into simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous). This can be difficult for Asian speakers whose language only has one, or for native speakers of the Slavic languages, which only have three.
The teacher must master and be able to teach form and usage of these tenses. The teacher must correct student errors, and devise activities to facilitate learning correct use of tenses.
I, like many native speakers, was only aware of the past, present and future tenses, and understood the subdivisions intuitively. The activities listed to get students engaged, such as telling stories, developing situations and actions in progress such as miming and pictures are helpful to me as a teacher.
