Unit 13 was probably the most challenging unit for me because it was all about pronunciation and phonology which are two areas of language learning that I know very little about. As stated at the beginning of the unit, pronunciation is probably the most neglected aspect of language learning because it is difficult and most teachers never really study phonetics. Even as a French teacher, I briefly learned the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), but never really felt comfortable with it. This unit was a nice way for me to not only review the International Phonetic Alphabet, but also to learn about the various speech organs and how they are used in articulation. I found the section on the places and manners of articulation to be particularly interesting because I learned so much about how I speak and pronounce my own language that I never knew before.
