In this unit, we covered conditionals and indirect speech. We learned how students of English as a foreign language are taught to categorize and analyze conditionals, as well as the way that they are taught to turn direct speech into indirect speech. As a native speaker of American English, I actually found these explanations somewhat confusing: I think that British English makes several distinctions in both conditionals and indirect speech that we tend not to. More explanation would be helpful, as well as an explanation of common exceptions (however demotic). E.g., test question #20: in American English, response 1, \"Jack said that he was going to have dinner with his wife that evening,\" is not only comprehensible, but even correct, every bit as much as response 2, \"Jack said that he was having dinner with his wife that evening.\"
