This module contained to main grammatical topics: Reported speech and conditionals. Conditionals are sentences that contain two clauses, one being dependent on the other. There are five kinds of conditionals, the zeroth refers to irrefutable actions and facts, the first to a likely situation in the future, the second to an unlikely situation in the future and the third to a hypothetical scenario were the condition is in the past.
Reported speech is used when reporting the speech of an other and often involves a change in tense, in time expressions and in pronouns.After completing Unit 6 on past tenses, it is clear that we need to have a clear understanding of the different past tenses, as well as their usages. I believe understanding the uses of each tense will lead to a deeper knowledge on the rules, and allow us to better teach our students these uses. We must first learn and understand ourselves, before we can effectively share our knowledge with our students. For me it was beneficial to start out with the rules and learn how each sentence structure is organized based on the tense, and then work through the different uses.
