In this unit, I learned about how to teach English vocabulary, grammar and functions in general. For example, I now know how to select the vocabularies and sentence structures to teach students. I also learned about what do students need to know about a vocabulary item, a grammatical structure and different language functions. I especially like the sample activities outlined in the learning materials about what each phase (engage, activate and study) should include in teaching vocabulary, grammar and English function.As a former teacher, I am quite familiar with lesson planning. However, the current unit provided a welcome reminder of the importance of being flexible with the planning and execution of lessons. The main point of this unit is that teaching is a dynamic process. Effective teachers adjust their goals and subject their lessons to constant revision in order to meet the unique needs of each class. I really appreciated the sample lesson plan in this unit and will certainly use it as a guide for my own lesson planning.
