This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was very useful as it showed various techniques for teaching pronunciation and phonology to non-native students. The awareness of the way one's mouth and vocal cords are used to pronounce a sound is very useful in understanding not only English pronunciation, but also one's own native language. It makes one \"feel\" the language as they speak. I learned the way stress in a sentence can be used to convey different meaning, and how perhaps people can be unaware of the message being conveyed. This unit covered conditionals and their various forms and usages as well as reported speech. The past tenses used can cause some problems among native speakers, so these seem like they may be difficult to explain to students. The grammar rules for tenses in reported speech are actually more complicated than I had previously realized. The issue of time in reported speech in comparison to when it was originally said can create some confusion as well. The diagram provided may prove useful in teaching.
