I have learnt that a course book is not the Gospel, It should be approached critically, thinking where it needs to be supplemented with created materials or better adapted to students needs. The unit gives also ideas about created materials. Authentic materials like magazines, newspaper or something else can be also used but with attention, considering carefully if they are suitable for the level of the students.To understand teaching and evaluating the productive skills, we must consider how they are different from the receptive skills, listening and reading. Because of relative ease of teaching and assessing the reading and listening, their related notions and approaches dominate English instruction. We tend to place a greater emphasis on acquisition and comprehension than communicative competence, although the latter is the obvious goal of speaking and writing instruction.
