This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Classroom management is really important to be an excellent teacher. There are certain components in which the teacher has to be aware of the pros and cons of classroom management.
Gestures should be used only if the students already understand the clear meanings. Seating arrangements should be done according to the requirement of the task, whether to be done individually, pairing or grouping the students.
Building a good rapport is equally important. Smiling face helps the students build confidence on the teacher. Shouting never helps in when facing an unruly behavior. This unit was useful, because it gave practical insight of the things you should and should not do during class. Furthermore, it provides clear view on the teacher's influence during a class. For example, if the teacher is energetic and enthousiastic then the students will be the same most of the time. The unit was also great because it provided more insight about a real teaching class and not only theory, which makes the theory 'come more alive'. In the end this unit was great, because it provided myself with a lot of practical insight of the do's and don'ts when teaching.
