Speaking and writing are productive skills. We speak or/and write to communicate. We learn English to communicate in English.Communication involves that we have some communicative purpose, we want to say something, we want to listen to something.As a teacher we want to see accuracy and fluency when learners are speaking.Accuracy is suitable during the study phase and fluency during the activate phase. Sometimes, writing is neglected.Teachers also need to pay attention to it.The content of this unit deals explicitly with Past Tenses used in the English Language. As with the Present Tenses discussed in a previous unit, the Past Tenses comprise the Simple, Perfect, Continuous and Perfect Continuous types. The forms, correct usages, common mistakes/errors and sample activate stage teaching ideas applied to Past Tenses in English Language were explained. I have been able to refresh and also improve my knowledge of the appropriate use of Past Tenses.
