This unit focused on the various methods of teaching and their descriptions, giving some insight into different structures and methods for a lesson. The method that is focused on in this course is ESA (Engage, Study, Activate), which loosely means that the students first are engaged in the lesson with an active set of tasks, are then given tasks which require study and concentration, and then are given the chance to use the learnt language in a task, encouraging them to 'activate' their new knowledge along with already learnt knowledge. Three different ESA lesson types were explained in this module - the 'straight arrow' type (Engage stage, Study stage, Activate stage), the 'Boomerang type' (Engage stage, Activate stage 1, Study stage, Activate stage 2) and the 'Patchwork type' (a mix of the different stages, starting with Engaging and ending with Activate).
