This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered evaluation and testing. I learned about the different types of tests, which include placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests, and practice tests and external exams. Placement and diagnostic tests are given at the beginning of the year. Placement tests ensure that students are in a class suited to their level and abilities, and diagnostic tests help the teacher see the initial status of the students, and tailor the course accordingly. Progress tests can be given periodically throughout the course to monitor retention and skill acquisition, and should cover a balance of the four skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). External exams were introduced, such as general exams and the Cambridge Assessment. Some students will be taking the course to prepare for these exams, so knowledge of them can be useful in designing courses.
