This unit does a decent job on having participants focus on the receptive skills- listening and reading.
The unit introduces the why and how of these receptive skills, as well as the specialist skills which which we all employ when reading or listening- yet as inexperienced teachers, sometimes forget to provide our students with the chance to practice this specialist skills in the target language (English). It also introduces common problems faced when teaching receptive skills, and teacher/student strategies to use in lessons.
I found both the model of an ESA patchwork lesson and the worksheets very helpful for beginning teachers; these are key for giving new teachers support and confidence.
All in all, I believe this unit could have gone more in-depth, as it covered much more practical information rather than theory, but it was a good unit nonetheless.
