This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The unit explored features of the conditional form and reported speech. There were five conditionals explained, which were all quite similar, especially the third and mixed conditionals. Some teaching ideas were also detailed which seem as if they could be adapted for elementary or lower intermediate learners. I never knew how to distinguish conditionals, so that was something I learnt.
Reported and direct speech was also detailed. How the tenses change is very difficult to understand, even as a native learner because there are not so many examples. When a native speaker of English thinks of verb tenses, I would argue that they visualise in examples rather than terminology, so it has been challenging to learn that aspect of direct speech. The time expressions and teaching ideas relating to direct and reported speech however was easy to understand and useful.
