Unit Overview:
Receptive and production skills are equally important although the focus is on reading and listening skills in this unit. The various reading and listening skills are required in order to strike a good balance. It is crucial to pre-teach difficult vocabulary prior to commencing with the next study phase while carefully selecting topics that will entice your students to become involved in the lesson. Tasks should promote understanding and therefore the activities should be appropriate to the level of understanding of the students.The different methodologies have been interesting to learn about, but like the lesson suggested I will have to make detailed decisions based on my specific circumstances. As a new teacher, the ESA method has broken down a teaching lesson into its simplest form. Arousing the students interest first will help establish rapport and get them motivated. Then the study section will help establish sound teaching. Finally, the activate section will get them excited about learning as they put into practice their new found skills of the English language.
