Using course books in a balanced way is very important. It is very common for teachers to use the course books too much and lose creativity. Supplementing the lesson with created material to reinforce the lesson can be very useful. Authentic material is a great form of realistic language to know but should not always be used for certain level of students. Using the course book is practical because it have a tried and tested syllabus for grading. Using the course book too often can create boredom among the students. Gap fill activities and crosswords is a great example of created material to use in class. Authentic materials can be more interesting than course book activities or lessons. Using a proper balance of all the materials would be the best method of choice. Adding or replacing some of the materials that may not be suitable for the class is recommended.
