This unit covered the use of course books in the classroom. The text suggests that a teacher should not overly rely on a course book, but should add their own original materials to help supplement the lesson. This keeps the lessons interesting for students because created and authentic material can be chosen specifically for individual students. Based on my experiences as a student, I found that almost all of the points mentioned in the text proved to be true. The more original lessons that teachers taught seemed to be much more effective and engaging than when we were following instructions from a textbook. The only problem that I can see arising with created or authentic materials is that it takes time to gather or create these materials. Teachers are often very busy with lessons and grading work, so it may be difficult to find time to gather these materials.
