In unit fifteen, the various methods for evaluating students before, during and after a course were examined. I learned that there is more than just periodic tests with a final examination. Student's typically find their placement into a specified skill-level course by taking the placement test. Prior to commencing the course a diagnostic test is helpful to gauge where student's proficiency stands and how to modify the course to reflect this. I learned there are two main types of tests given during the course, progress tests and practice tests, each having unique aims. Progress tests being best for assessing student progress and practice tests to help them prepare for their external exam. Lastly, depending on the student's goals and level of learning, they will likely take either an achievement test, external exam or proficiency test, or a combination of these.
