There are different methods and techniques you can use when teaching English as a second or foreign language. Students need as much exposure as possible, they should also be comfortable and encouraged to discover the language for themselves. Students also need a certain amount of input from the teacher.
Engage-Study-Activate is the most effective and logical of all the methodologies. The engage stage is where the teacher arouses the students interest and gets them involved. In the study stage; the students focus on the language and how it is constructed. The teacher tries to elicit as much information as possible from the students. Finally, in the activate stage, the students are encouraged to use the language they know.
Feedback and correction is Important, but students should always try to correct themselves or help each other before the teacher does.
