This unit is about the form and usage of the four past tenses. Just like the present tense, there is the past simple, past continuous, past perfect and the past perfect continuous. The past simple tense is when we talk an action that has been completed before now. The past continuous tense is used when describing an action which was in progress in the past and is likely to continue in the future. this tense is also used when talking about a gradual change that happened in the past. The past perfect tense on the other hand, is when something occurs in the past before another action or specific time in the past. Then there is the past perfect, continuous which is the least commonly used from the four past tenses. It is used when talking about an action or event which was in progress in right up until another action occurs, completing the action of the first event.
