This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 3 introduces a variety of different methodological approaches in the classroom, in most cases outlining both benefits and drawbacks. The majority of the Unit focuses on the ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method, the differences between each stage, and specific activities for each stage. In my previous teaching experience, I have had the most experience with Audio-lingualism, PPP, and TBL. I have had colleagues who practiced The Silent Way. By focusing on ESA the course provides clear guidelines for future lesson plans and general teaching philosophy, which is greatly appreciated. I had never heard of ESA methodology before, and am excited to incorporate these ideas in a classroom setting. I also liked the clear guidelines on corrections at each stage. I'd never considered varying the degree/nature of corrections at different stages in a single lesson.
