Unit 11 explains the difference between receptive and creative skills. All the four skills are equally important although in this unit they focus on the receptive ones which are reading and listening. The reasons that can motivate someone to use these two skills are mostly entertainment and a particular purpose. The specialist skills we involve reading and listenings are mainly predictive, scanning, skimming, deduction from the context and when we look for detailed information. when we plan a lesson focus on those two receptive skills we have to be careful to select a text which is cut for the level of our students and we have to pre-teach some vocabulary in order to give them the tools to decodify the text easily. We also have to try to select a topic which will interest most of the students so that they would feel involved actively and certainly learn quicker.
