In this unit we learned about intonation and what that means in terms of conveying and receiving information as well as how to teach it the basic patterns of rise/fall fall/rise and flat to our students in different ways. Stress was included here because it refers to single words that can be looked at as far as pronunciation. We studied pronunciation by place of articulation and manner of articulation and became familiar with how we actually form sounds using our mouth, tongue, larynx and glottis. We studied all the positions that come into play from the front of the mouth sounds to the mid and back of the mouth as well as the positioning of our tongue, teeth and lips. Finally we looked at the phonemic alphabet and how we can successfully introduce and use this chart to bridge the gap between the actual spelling of English words and the pronunciation of them.
