This unit was very interesting and fun! It was enjoyable to see a different type of lesson with more pictures and activities. We learned about the pros and cons of lesson/course books as well as authentic vs created materials. Created materials are fantastic especially for younger children to help them gain elementary concepts, while authentic materials are best suited for older more fluent students. Authentic materials are things such as menus, brochures, pamphlets, as well as signs and movie tickets. Created materials are things such as worksheets and special reading or notebook works. Course books were also discussed and they reminded us to think about our students, their level, culture, and if it would be interesting for them. I think using a mixture of course materials and created materials as well as authentic materials would be the most advantageous to use.
