This unit covers the following sections: general theories of learning and development, native language and language acquisition, suitable approaches to teaching, setting the learning environment, the skills the students want and need from the teaching and distinguishing between maturation. From this unit, I am able to identify the four major groups of learning and behaviour theories and apply the theories to young learners. I can also explain the difference between language acquisition and language learning. I have also learnt how to change the learning environment to adapt to the needs of certain tasks and what a role a teacher may fulfil. I can also identify the two productive skills and two receptive skills and give examples. The maturation section has allowed me to gain an understanding of what certain types of ages may enjoy and dislike when teaching a class.
