This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 deals with classroom management. It discussed how eye contact, gestures and the voice can be essential in class. We also learned different types of class groupings, namely: whole-class grouping (suitable for teachers who needs to be in control), students working on their own (helps the student to be more self-reliant), pair work (increases student talking time and interaction) and group work (encourages students to talk and cooperate in English). Although these class groupings are helpful, each method also has its own disadvantages. The unit also mentioned helpful classroom arrangements that highly depends on the space available in class, the type of tables and chairs, the ages of students, their nationalities and personalities. Having good rapport with the students and maintaining discipline in class are also very important for a class to learn effectively.
