The biggest takeaway for me was that a good teacher has to be willing and able to recognize that their teaching style and methods need to adapt to their audience. Children will have different needs than adults, just as differences will exist between the needs of beginning and advanced students. Furthermore, teachers need to understand how to handle different environments, including cultural norms, class sizes, and any other characteristics of their students that may influence their motivations and abilities to learn. A good teacher understands these differences and takes different approaches to reach his or her students and enable them to be successful.
