This unit reviews the advantages and disadvantages of course books and materials that one might use in teaching EFL classes. In addition to suggestions for course books that are up to date and engaging, this unit provides a number of worksheets and role-play cards that serve as examples for suitable classroom materials and teaching aides. Overall, I learned that the process of choosing a course book should keep the students' needs and interests in mind. Because not all books are suited to the exact audience I will be teaching, most lessons will require tailoring to my class through replacement with more relevant or appropriate material, complete omission, or supplementation. No matter the quality of the book, supplementing the book's guide with creative materials generated by the teacher can reinforce lessons more effectively than sticking to every word of the book.
