In this unit we studied theories, methods and techniques of teaching English. We also focused on the modern approach of ESA developed by Jeremy Harmer that focuses on the development of communicative skills and immediate application of the language structures learnt during the lesson.We drew a conclusion that students need much exposure to language to become truly fluent speakers and the teacher`s role is mostly to monitor and give feedback when necessary rather than correct all the mistakes of the students.Classroom management is an important part of helping students to learn well. If the classroom setting is well organized, open and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, students will more likely benefit and learn with greater ease and confidence. A certain amount of discipline is necessary, as well as the teacher demonstrating control over the direction of the class, whilst at the same time, students should be given enough opportunity to build a good rapport between each other and have fun learning together.
