Unit 7 covered the teaching of three major aspects of English language:
1) Vocabulary
2) Grammatical Structures
3) Language Functions
The Teaching Vocabulary section discussed factors that contribute to the Selection of Vocabulary. It also explored what students need to know about vocabulary to learn it effectively. The section then listed activities that could be used during each of the Engage, Study, and Activate segments of any given lesson. Finally, a sample ESA lesson was described in detail.
The sections outlining the teaching of Grammatical Structures and Language Functions followed a similar pattern as the above section on new Vocabulary. Each of them explored what students need to know about these aspects of language, listed activities for each of the ESA segments of a class, and provided sample lessons using the Boomerang and Patchwork ESA arrangements.
