In this unit we looked at the usage of the past tense and its different forms. I've learnt the grammatical structure of the different tenses as well as how or when to use the different forms of the past tense which will be useful in explaining the proper usage of these tenses to students. Furthermore I've also become aware of useful teaching ideas that could be used in the classroom during the activate stage of my lesson in order for students to practice the use of the particular form of the past tense.The two Productive Skills (Speaking and Writing) are as important as the two Receptive Skills (Listening and Reading). However, students tend to prioritise the speaking skill in order to get fluency rather than accuracy. It is then up to the teacher to create the need and desire, in the students, to communicate in a classroom. Various techniques and activities (including games) are to be used to stimulate the students to speak and improve their fluency. Accuracy can be controlled during the Study phase.
