The teacher's attitude has a huge effect on how receptive the students will be to learning. I learned from the reported speech section that generally the verb tense is shifted back one place to a tense even further into the past, words to express time and location also have to be shifted back as their context can become invalid if there is a large gap between the direct speech and the reported speech.
