This unit was very informative. It covers the major theories of learning and development, the difference between group 1 and group 2 learners, and ways to effectively teach the two groups of young learners by the ways of pointing out their attributes and interests. What I found most interesting was that learning a second language in the way people learn their first language can be effective and the only proven way of learning a language. Although this is my second language, I never thought about duplicating the language learning process with my second language. Also, I found the difference between group one and group two particularly interesting as I had not known that group two differed in such a significant way from group one. It seems critical to know these things as teaching young learners effectively seems to depend on knowing their strengths as well as weaknesses.
