Most teachers will be given course books and materials already designed by someone else. Students and teachers are expecting this way of working. It is reassuring for both parties. However, teachers must be sure that the material is relevant to the student's level and interest otherwise it could become very difficult to keep students attention and motivation. Therefore teachers are encouraged to sometimes create their own material tailored to their students' needs.This unit covered different teaching methods and then focused in on the ESA,or Engage-Study-Activate, method. This method helps to ensure that students are motivated and engaged with what is happening in class before they are introduced to new concepts in the study phase. It always finishes with the activate phase, in which students are encouraged to naturally use the new language skills they have acquired during the lesson alongside their existing language skills.
