Unit 17 looks at the materials and technologies that are available for teaching and explores the wide variety of resources that can be used in the classroom. These resources are helpful in improving ESL lessons and can be used to make them more effective and interesting, relieving anxiety or boredom by presenting information in a new and exciting way. The list of online resources is very useful for language teachers to use in their classrooms.In this unit we are introduced to receptive skills, meaning the skills of reading and listening. We learn the basic types of use for these skills: predictive, scanning, skimming, looking for detailed information, and deducing from content. We are taught some basic methodology to help with receptive skills, such as carefully selecting texts and pre-teaching vocabulary. I learned some good ways to decide on a topic and keep the students engaged.
